Father’s Day has a way of bringing old memories to the surface. For me, it’s the smell of something sautéing on the stove, the sound of a sharp knife hitting a cutting board, the quiet joy of a good meal coming together. My dad was a trained chef, and before my parents split up, he was the main cook in our home.

It was a beautiful rhythm: my mom tending to her vegetable garden out back, and my dad turning those fresh ingredients into something warm and nourishing in the kitchen. That rhythm stayed with me.

Though my dad is no longer with us, his love for food lives on in me. Today, I’m the primary cook in my own household. It’s one of the roles I cherish most.
