Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I wash my Ambrosia Bags?

Wash your bags every two weeks, between uses, or if any spoilage occurs. They can be hand washed or machine washed. Turn them inside out before washing and air dry. We recommend a natural, unscented, nontoxic detergent with a tablespoon of baking soda. For stains, a white vinegar prewash helps.

Are all of the bags the same?

All of our bags are made with high quality European flax linen, with each weave selected to suit the needs of specific types of produce. This means your greens, vegetables, berries, and mushrooms each get the storage environment that supports their freshness. Every bag is also unique in size, weight, and functionality.

Where does each bag go?

Moist, in the crisper drawer: Leafy Greens, XL Leafy Greens, Vegetable and Fresh Herb Bags. Rinse the produce, put it in while it is still wet, and rewet the bag when it dries out.

Dry, on a fridge shelf: Berry and Mushroom Bags. Put the produce in unwashed, straight from the carton, and keep the bag dry.

What makes up an Ambrosia Bag?

All Ambrosia Bags are made from breathable European flax linen, with each weave selected to suit the needs of specific types of produce. The zipper chain is made from durable plastic for corrosion resistance, and the zipper pull is zinc alloy. Both zipper components are made in the USA.

Vegetable Bag

How do I use it?

Vegetable Bag (Moist Storage)

  • Hearty vegetables (celery, beets, broccoli, cabbage) go on the bottom.
  • Delicate vegetables (cucumbers, peppers, asparagus) go near the zipper.
  • Place rinsed veggies in bag while still wet.
  • One third of the bag should look visibly wet.
  • Store in the crisper drawer. Rewet as needed under faucet or with spray bottle.
What’s it for?

The Vegetable Bag is designed for hearty produce like carrots, beets, cucumbers, zucchini, and squash. The breathable linen supports steady airflow and humidity, helping vegetables stay crisp and hydrated.

How do I prep veggies?

Rinse your vegetables so they’re wet, then place them directly into the bag. The moisture helps activate the linen’s humidity regulating qualities. If the bag dries out, simply rewet it with a quick pass under the faucet or a few sprays of water before placing it back in the fridge.

How do I pack it?

Stack heavier items like carrots, beets, or radishes on the bottom, and layer more delicate ones such as peppers, asparagus, or green beans on top. This helps maintain airflow and keeps fragile produce from being crushed.

Can I store root vegetables?

Yes. Root vegetables like carrots, beets, and radishes do well when stored cool and moist inside the bag. Onions and potatoes still prefer dry pantry storage.

How often should I wash it?

Wash every one to two weeks, or between uses if storing a new mix of produce. Cold wash, mild detergent, air dry completely.

Are materials sustainable?

Yes. The body of each Ambrosia Bag is made from European flax linen, a renewable, low impact textile used for natural food storage. Every bag also funds the rescue of a pound of fresh food through our partner EcoDrive.

Berry Bag

How do I use it?

Berry Bag (Dry Storage)

  • Remove any berries that are bruised or molding.
  • Place unwashed berries in bag and zip closed.
  • Store strawberries and blueberries together.
  • Keep raspberries and blackberries in bottom half of the original packaging.
  • Store on fridge shelf or in the low humidity drawer.
  • Rinse before eating.
How do I store berries?

Keep berries dry and unwashed until you’re ready to eat them. Store them in the bag on a fridge shelf to allow airflow and help reduce moisture buildup. For extra staying power, you can rinse berries in a light vinegar bath, air dry them completely, and then store them in the bag once fully dry.

Why dry?

Berries are delicate and sensitive to excess water. Keeping them dry in breathable linen helps slow early spoilage and preserve their texture.

Which berries work best?

The Berry Bag works perfectly for strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries.

How often should I wash it?

Wash every one to two weeks, or after each use if storing different fruit. Cold wash, mild detergent, air dry fully before reuse.

Why better than plastic or paper?

Plastic traps moisture, while paper draws it out. Linen allows natural airflow, helping berries stay plump and fresh longer.

Are materials sustainable?

Yes. The body of each Ambrosia Bag is made from European flax linen, a renewable, low impact textile used for natural food storage. The zipper is made by YKK in the USA for durability and lasting use. Every bag also funds the rescue of a pound of fresh food through our partner EcoDrive.

Mushroom Bag

How do I use it?

Mushroom Bag (Dry Storage)

  • Place unwashed mushrooms in bag and zip closed.
  • Store on fridge shelf or in low humidity drawer.
  • Rinse or wipe before cooking. Use within two weeks or less.
How do I store mushrooms?

Keep mushrooms dry and refrigerate them inside the bag. The linen allows airflow that helps minimize condensation and maintain their firm texture.

Should I wash mushrooms first?

No. It’s best to store mushrooms dry and brush off any dirt before cooking. A soft cloth or mushroom brush works best for cleaning right before use.

What mushrooms work best?

All fresh mushrooms such as shiitake, cremini, portobello, oyster, and button benefit from the Mushroom Bag’s breathable design.

Can I keep the bag in the crisper drawer?

You can, but a fridge shelf often works best since it’s slightly drier and helps prevent moisture buildup.

How often should I wash it?

Wash every one to two weeks, or after use if residue builds up. Cold wash, mild detergent, air dry fully before reuse.

Fresh Herb Bag

How do I use it?

Fresh Herb Bag (Moist Storage)

  • Remove any wilted, yellowing, or slimy leaves before storing.
  • Rinse herbs if needed, then gently shake off excess water.
  • For delicate herbs, lightly mist the herbs or moisten the inside of the bag.
  • Place herbs loosely inside and zip closed.
  • The bag should feel lightly moist, not soaking wet.
  • Store in the crisper drawer or a cool area of the fridge.
  • Rewet as needed with a spray bottle or a quick pass under the faucet.

Best for: cilantro, parsley, dill, mint, chives, tarragon, and leafy garden herbs.

Note: Basil is naturally more cold sensitive than most herbs and is often best stored at room temperature in water rather than in the refrigerator.

What herbs is it best for?

The Fresh Herb Bag is best for leafy herbs like cilantro, parsley, dill, mint, chives, tarragon, and similar fresh herbs that benefit from cool, gently moist storage.

Should the bag be wet or dry?

Use the Fresh Herb Bag lightly moist. It should feel moist enough to support humidity, but not soaked or dripping.

Can I use it for basil?

Basil is more sensitive to cold than most herbs. For longer storage, basil is usually better kept at room temperature in a small jar of water. For short term fridge storage, use your best judgment and avoid letting it get too cold or too wet.

How often should I rewet it?

Rewet when the linen starts to feel dry. Depending on your fridge, herb type, and humidity level, this may be every few days.

Can I wash it?

Yes. Turn inside out, hand wash or machine wash on gentle, and air dry. Avoid machine drying.

Where is it made?

Each bag is handcrafted in Los Angeles using European flax linen and a YKK zipper made in the USA.

Linen Napkin Set

What comes in a set?

Each set includes four linen napkins measuring approximately 16″ × 15″ each.

Are the napkins preshrunk?

Do I need to iron them?

Will they become softer?

Yes. One of the qualities we love most about linen is the way it continues to soften and develop character with washing and everyday use.

Are these just for special occasions?

Quite the opposite. We designed them for breakfast, weeknight dinners, dinner parties, holidays, and everything in between. They're meant to be used.

How should I wash them?

Machine wash with a mild detergent, then tumble dry low or air dry. Iron if desired.
