An Ode to Health and the Quiet Habits That Last
At 71, health becomes less about trends and more about small habits that actually last. From fresh food handled with care to produce that stays good long enough to be eaten, Jan shares the quiet routines that support real wellness, plus a simple thank you offer.
At 71, you start to understand health a little differently.
It’s no longer about chasing youth or trying the newest miracle fix. It’s about waking up with enough energy to tend the garden. Cooking a real meal. Sleeping well. Feeling steady in your body and clear in your mind.
I’ve lived long enough to see health go in and out of fashion. Low fat, no fat. Sugar is fine, sugar is poison. Superfoods shipped from across the globe. Powders and pills promising shortcuts. I’ve tried some of it.
Most of it didn’t last.
What did last were the quiet things.
The Things That Don’t Trend, But Work
Fresh food handled with care. Meals cooked at home. Produce that stayed good long enough to actually get eaten. Walking outside. Drinking water. Paying attention to how my body feels instead of what an ad tells me I should want.
Health, I’ve learned, lives in small moments. Not the dramatic ones. The ordinary ones that repeat every day.
The way you store your food.
The way you slow down long enough to cook it.
The way you care for yourself without guilt or urgency.
Why Ambrosia Began
When I started Ambrosia, it wasn’t about building a company.
It was about solving a very simple problem in my own kitchen. I was tired of buying beautiful produce and watching it wilt, rot, or get pushed to the back of the fridge. I wanted my food to last long enough to nourish me.
That’s still the heart of it.
Our bags are made with European flax linen, handcrafted in Southern California, and designed to help create an optimal environment to help fruits and vegetables stay fresh for up to two weeks longer, depending on produce type and storage conditions.
Not as a magic trick. Just as a small, steady support for the kind of kitchen habits that make life feel better over time.
A Simple Kind of Support
The older I get, the more I appreciate tools that quietly do their job.
The kind that help you follow through on your intentions. The kind that make it easier to eat what you bought. The kind that reduce waste without turning your life into a project.
If Ambrosia has helped make those moments a little easier in your home, I’m grateful.
And if you’ve been meaning to start, or add another bag to your kitchen, I wanted to share a small thank you.
